Chapter 29: The First of Many

A flash of light—that was all he could remember. Normally when you faint, your vision gets grainy and various coloured spots appear before it all dims into complete darkness. But this wasn’t like that. He was hit, or struck rather by some unseeable entity, and all he could recall was falling backwards. Then, this. Whatever ‘this’ was.

He wasn’t unconscious, but he wasn’t awake either. He couldn’t open his eyes for what seemed like the longest time, and his hearing had faded to a dim whisper. Damon stressed his range, trying to pick up any sound, only all that came back was a high-pitched noise. He kept trying repeatedly, hoping for anything—and eventually, the buzzing changed to a dull hum, and he could hear Adelaide calling out to him.

“Damon! Damon, I need you to wake up! Damon!”
