Chapter 30: Eli

What happened next was almost an entire blur. Damon watched as Adelaide charged Eli; her legs racing against the wind that Eli was creating. His eyes were still closed, and his palms still to the sky, giving Adelaide the advantage of being unseen. But just as she approached and reached to take her swing, his eyes flipped open, and he dodged her blow in the nick of time.

Adelaide took another swing, but this time with her leg—nonetheless, Eli’s body was able to block every shot, as if he had been training for moments such as these. Damon watched as their arms and bodies danced around one another, taking turns in battle. The back of his head stung, along with his side—only none of that was comparable to the anger he felt when Eli’s fist connected with Adelaide’s jaw, knocking her to the ground.
