Chapter 81: Who’s Sorry Now

“I’m busy,” Hallie called out.

“Hey, it’s me,” Terry’s voice sounding strangely sedate came from the other side of the door.

“What do you want? Go away!”

Of all the people gathered there, her sister was the person she least wanted to see.

“Can I just come in, please?” Terry sounded so unlike herself that it piqued Hallie’s curiosity.

Terry even looked meek when Hallie wrenched open the door.

“What?”

“Are you packing?” Terry suddenly asked as Hallie returned to her task. “You know you don’t have to go.”

“I know I don’t have to. I want to.”

“You’re overreacting. See, even mama was just as bad as you when she was our age, apparently.”

“Why are you here, Terry?” Hallie said as she hurled toiletries into her bag.

“I just wanted to say… I’m sorry.”

This was unbelievable. She even looked sorry, but what good did it do anyone now?

“Why are you sorry? I thought you got everything you wanted.”
