Chapter 90: A Family Heirloom

“Here, this is for you.” Mirabel came in, giving only the briefest knock as a warning. “You are to wear this at the soiree tonight.”

She was carrying a hanger with a mysterious article of clothing covered by a protective cotton sheath.

It had been two days since Hallie arrived at the palace, and she was becoming used to Mirabel coming and going from her room.

Not surprisingly, Hallie did not enjoy having her as a maid. Mirabel would sometimes come in and dust the furniture with a sour expression on her face. Other times, like now, she would bring something fancy for Hallie to wear, courtesy of the queen.

“What’s a soiree?” Hallie asked.

Mirabel scoffed. “You don’t know anything, do you? A soiree is an intimate gathering. Like what you would call a party.”
