Thirty hot air balloons stood ready for takeoff in the alpine foothills, and this time it wasn’t just the upper classes who would take flight. 


The king and queen had decided that this year all the common citizens were entered in a draw, and a few lucky winners got to participate in the royal balloon flight.


The monarchs were either trying to show that they could be somewhat democratic or making sure Hallie didn’t feel special for being there.


She knew Luke had had an argument with his parents earlier about her participating at all, and that he threatened not to show up if Hallie wasn’t allowed to be in the ceremony.
