Chapter 106: The Invitation

Hallie didn’t know what to say. She had come a long way towards forgiving him and finding that he wasn’t always the bad boy people thought him to be, but did she really want to spend a whole life with him?

How could she trust that he wouldn’t break her heart again?

If she brought up the reasons why she still didn’t fully trust him, it would ruin this wonderful day.

“That reminds me,” she said, “there’s something I wanted to tell you…”

“What’s that?”

“You should forgive yourself for the car crash with Rickard. You can’t go through the rest of your life carrying that guilt.”

“I’m way ahead of you,” Luke said. “I’ve already made up my mind to forgive myself.”

“Yeah, right. You just thought of that now.”

“Okay,” he admitted, “I just thought of that now. Because you asked me to.”

“So you’ll really think about it?” Hallie asked, probing his eyes with her gaze.

“Of course.” He looked back, unflinching, maybe even too intense. She wasn’t sure what that look meant.
