Chapters 151

Gus brought in the water and set it on the stove, where I had just relit my fire, then left to report. When I heard his voice outside sooner than I expected, I couldn't help but get up and wobble to the door in excitement, eager to see him all the sooner.

But before my hand reached the handle, another familiar male voice, a bit higher, came in. Remembering that Roman had the lowest, rumbling voice, I paused. I wasn't wearing my mask. I could always dig one out of the dresser.

For some reason, though, I cracked the door open and listened instead.

" - she says you're her kid, but all her children died."

"Is that really any of your business?"

"...Just stay out of her house and we won't have any problems."

Gus gave a scathing laugh that sounded too much like him. "What kind of problems could you do for me? Go home. Stop being a noisy asshole before I actually get pissed."
