Chapter 159

I didn't miss the way Gus's eyes jumped between Roman and I on entering the tent, or the brief chill I got at the way they settled on Roman. Roman, thankfully fully dressed now in a shirt and pants, met his gaze head on, even when they glowed a faint dark pink.

But Gus's eyes soon dimmed and he settled himself backwards on the only other chair in the room. He rested his arms on the back of it as though nothing had happened. He even gave a cock of one side of his mouth.

"You called me at this late hour, General Sir? See you not that I be in my pjs?"

Pants and a shirt hardly counted as pjs, but since every other time I'd seen the two they'd been decked out in full armor I guess it would be so.

"I'm in a good mood, so I'll ignore the disrespect this time."

Gus's eyebrow twitched.

"You've had the better part of the day to figure out about the insurrection, yet you haven't reported it."
