I had no say. My body froze. Some old and primeval thing in my blood which told my cave man ancestors to run from leopards and not touch fire started screaming.

"It's okay." Gus tugged me forward. "Moonfall's been expecting you. I've showed her a lot of pictures of you. And you have the ring."

I let him pull me forward, despite my protesting muscles. I mean, come on, it's a dragon. And if it wasn't going to flame or eat me, why wouldn't I check it out? Putting aside that it was an impossible fantasy creature I'd only read in books, it was my baby's big three year project, the result of his hard work, his noble steed. I had a duty to see and praise if nothing else.
