Chapter Twenty-One | Avalon

I sip some warm tea as I lay under the cozy duvet. It’s been two days since I got home from the hospital, and the entirety of my existence has been confined to this bed. I throw my head back, laughing at the sitcom on TV.

My hand clenches my stomach, the sudden movement causing agonizing pain. I sit still for a moment, before grabbing my phone and scrolling through the endless text messages from Alexander. I want to answer more than anything, but he couldn’t be there for me in my most vulnerable moment. How do I know I can count on him when things get hard?

I sigh, rereading the sweet words across the screen.

“I’m so sorry Avalon…”

I scroll further down.

“I miss your smile. Please answer me.”
