Chapter Twenty-Two | Avalon

I stare down at my thumbs, their clasped together nature distracting me from my anxiety. I’m currently sitting in Doctor Adams patient room, the same place I learned about my cancer only two months ago. I can’t seem to calm my racing heart as I wait impatiently.

The door swings inward and my eyes zoom up to view Doctor Adams. This time, he is wearing his usual smile. I let out a breath of relief and match his grin.

“Miss Stone, how are you feeling?”

“A lot better this week,” I reply, sitting up in my seat.

He nods his head, sitting across from me and opening his manila folder.

“That’s good to hear Avalon. I received the results from your scans, and I’m going to be upfront with you. The cancer has attacked a few new cells, but it is not spreading in the way we projected, which is good news. The chemo pill seems to be working as a defense just like we hoped. I think your recent bumps in the road have been normal side effects.”
