Chapter 13: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Sam

The drive home had Sam tangled in his thoughts. He thought Kinley was joking when she said there was someone else already. Her new man was handsome and headstrong. There was no way Sam would be able to compete with him. What had he done? In letting Kinley go he pushed her right into the arms of someone else. A tall and handsome someone else. Now there was likely no chance to get her back, but he wouldn't give up.

The cab pulled up in front of his apartment building. He could see his apartment from the street, and he thought it looked a little darker than usual. His girlfriend Tara should be there.

He paid the driver and walked up to the flight of stairs to his place. The door was slightly ajar.

"Odd," he said.

He slowly pushed it the rest of the way home. Just as he had thought, it was a little too dark inside.

"Tara," he said. No answer.

"Are you here?"
