As soon as I got back into the city limits, I headed toward Juno’s parents’ house to check in and return her vehicle. After getting buzzed in at the gate, I made my way down the long driveway and parked near the front door. I had been to her parents’ house many times before, but it was always intimidating and way more lavish than anything I was used to growing up.


She met me at the door, excited to see me return safely. She said, “You’re alone, that’s probably not the best sign,” and leaned in for a big hug. 


I obliged and replied, “Hikaru is still back there, but at least I got to see them, sort of.” I looked around to see if any staff or family members were within earshot. “Can we catch up in your room?”


“Of course,” she said and led me upstairs to her old bedroom. She closed the door, and we made ourselves comfortable on her plush couch.
