Chapter Seventy Five: The Symbol of Questions

Knowing full well that if they did not cooperate together then they would never succeed in their goals, All 3 decided to return and retreat for the time being until they could both discover more about the energy of the world and also, to wait for time to pass so that they could make their move.

Penny has believed she would be the one to make the right call at the right time but now it seemed as though Ember was in charge. And that Ember was more than capable of handling the battles that were coming their way. And this, deep within her soul, bothered Penny. To know, that she had so much responsibility and that in the end, someone who could easily walk away from all of it..has not only stayed but somehow managed to thrive and become stronger through it all. And that is something that Penny felt as though she had yet to do.

And now, knowing that now, Ember had higher stakes within this fight..it meant all that much more to Penny that she should step and do whatever it takes to defend her friend, to help her in any way she can, to keep her and the world alive..if they were even seperate to begin with.

A few months have passed since discovered the Pitt beneath the palace .

After taken shelter at one of Ravens many hideouts, Raven spent most of her time, researching anything she could into the energy of the world. Consulting old documents and books passed down through hundreds of years, taken from varies sources, she studied and researched for endless nights.

Penny spent most of her time training herself and doing what she could to gain access to more of her powers. Instead of approaching her side of things from the research angle, Penny hoped that by better understanding her abilities, that perhaps something would come to her that could possibly aid their goals as well as give answers as to how Ember had come into being.

Ember, on the other hand, spent most of her time, in deep forms of meditation. This at first, struck Raven and Penny rather odd considering that Ember never seemed like the type to remain calm. She always came across as more impatient however, Ember rarely spoke and kept to herself which was fine for Raven and Penny as it would avoid conflict.

Occasionally, Penny would be sent out of Raven needed new documents, and Penny would retrieve whatever was asked of her, usually by herself as Ember rarely ever traveled during their retreat.

" Penny, sweetie, I need you to go to meet with an ally of mine. He has some books that might be of help to us but he doesn't want to move too close to camp as it would give away our location if he were followed"

" Okay" Penny smiled happily as she stood up to her feet after taking a rest from her training, outside the small cottage.

" Just tell me where he will be and I'll teleport there and be back in a flash" Penny had almost perfected her ability to teleport and was more than ready to use it if it meant getting the task done quickly.

" Just make sure that you are not followed. You already know how to handle things and I know I'm constantly reminding you but I just want you to be safe" Raven placed her hands on the sides of Penny's head.

" Mom..I'll be fine" Penny rolls her eyes even though she knew that Raven had her best interest at heart.

" I know I just..I know" Raven releases her grip on Penny and wishes her well on the task.

And with that, Penny dissapeared from the cottage and appeared at a cross roads, not too far from the cottage but still far enough away that it would be rather difficult to locate the hideaway.

A long wait followed Penny, a bit longer than the agreed upon time though Penny knew that this ally would be taking a risk by meeting with her and thus she gave them more than enough ample time. But as time passed on, the concerns began to grow. That was until, the clattering off hoof prints could be heard in the distance. Penny prepared herself for a possible attack, though she hoped it would not come to that.

" Are you the one I seek? " a voice called from the wagon that now appeared in the distance. " That depends on who you seek" Penny called back to the mysterious person.

" That tells me that you probably are" the voice called back and now that the wagon was closer, Penny could see that the rider of the wagon was a rather large, muscular looking man, with a large brim hat, tipped down so that it covered his face for the most part.

The man reaches down by his side and grabs a giant stack of books and papers and leans his arm down to hand them to Penny. As Penny takes the books, she notices a marking upon the man's wrist, a symbol that she had seen before. Two mountains, intersecting one another.

" How..how did you get that Mark? " Penny questions, as she grabs the books.

The man adjusts himself back into his seat and leans back in a relaxed position.

" Why would it matter? " the man called down to her.

" Because that symbol is very important to me..I promise you that you wouldn't understand but it's important" Penny was trying her best to not sound desperate but she knew this was important.

" If you must know, I don't know how I got it. I was born with it" The man answered as he adjusted the reins in his hands.

" How could you be born with a mark like that..." Penny questioned. This man seemed to be telling the truth judging from his steady tone and demeanor though it made very little sense.

" You're guess is as good as mine " the man chuckled. " But I can tell you that if you really are surprised to see it, then you haven't been around for long.." The man snapped the reins and began to move the wagon along the trail.

" What do you mean? " Penny called out to the man but received no response. Leaving her with more questions now, and the truth of the symbol remaining a bigger mystery than before.
