"What? Why would you want to go to the bridge when we know that there is going to be a bloodbath?" Saeko asked with a confused look as soon as she heard Daichi's words.
"Well, none of the guns we used were silenced, so the Zombies should have been attracted toward here, but there are no Zombies on the streets" Daichi pointed out, Saeko nodded her head in agreement.
Now that Daichi mentioned it, Saeko realized that Daichi was right. The streets were completely empty except for the carcasses of the Zombies they had killed. It was really odd, they were pretty loud during the rescue, so the Zombies should have been drawn here, yet there were no signs of any Zombies, however Saeko still couldn't understand the reasoning behind Daichi's plan to go to the bridge.
"According to Bella, there is going to be a massacre on the bridge, which means that the Zombies probably headed there instead. Now that we are much stronger than normal humans, we can easily deal with a small horde of Zombies, and if we get surrounded by any chance, then Bella can always save us using her flames, but if we can take full advantage of the situation, then we should be able to complete our Job requirements" Daichi explained, and Saeko finally recognized the opportunity Daichi saw.
"...That is a good plan, but do you think everyone will agree with your idea? I mean they might argue that we need to save the people who are trapped on the bridge" Saeko asked with a confused look on her face.
"I will Curse them so badly that they wouldn't know the difference between their faces and their bollocks!!" Bella screeched with a look of fury etching her face. Daichi placed his hand over her head and started to caress her scalp soothingly.
"It won't be necessary, Bella. By the way, can you tell us when the massacre finally begins?" Daichi asked curiously and Bella eagerly nodded her head. "Good, then we tell everyone after it starts" Daichi said in a grave tone. Daichi knew that he was being cold and heartless, but there was nothing he could do.
He was responsible for the safety of those in his group, and nobody else. If they went there with the goal of trying to save everyone, it would mean fighting their way through the middle of the horde. Even if the horde was composed of only two hundred Zombies, they still wouldn't be able to save anyone as they'd be busy saving their own hides. Trying to save anyone in that situation would be extremely stupid and they'd just be committing suicide.
Realistically, he thought two hundred Zombies was underestimating the horde. The horde would probably be composed of at least a thousand Zombies. Daichi knew that he might be out of his depth, after all, he was planning to go against a horde that large, but the bigger the risk, the bigger the rewards. If he attacked the horde from the back, then they should easily be able to reap the rewards.
"For now, let's wait. Bella, tell me as soon as the massacre starts" Daichi stared off towards the bridge and Bella gleefully nodded her head. They didn't have to wait that long… After only a few minutes, Bella gave the signal. "Saeko-chan, go and call everyone to the meeting room. I will get my mom and Roberta" Daichi said and Saeko quickly left after giving him an understanding nod.
After a few minutes, everyone beside Maresato Chiba was gathered in the kitchen. Saeko informed Daichi that she didn't call Chiba because she felt that the woman would like to stay by herself. Daichi simply waved off her worries and said it was okay. Daichi looked around the room and some of the members did look annoyed, but it was understandable since they had a meeting only half an hour ago.
So, without wasting any time, Daichi quickly revealed the plan, but he did twist a few facts. First of all, Daichi refrained from telling everyone about Bella's premonition ability, he simply said that Bella was using Magic to keep an eye on the bridge. Secondly, Daichi kind of ignored telling everyone about the fact that the people on the bridge were already being massacred.
"What are we waiting for? We need to help them right now!!" Aoba Kenji exclaimed hurriedly and Daichi also cracked a smile. He knew that there were righteous bastards within the group and he knew that as soon as he mentioned that there were Zombies heading towards the bridge, they would immediately be all for a rescue mission without even thinking twice, and he wasn't disappointed.
"Wait! I wouldn't ask about the validity of the information since it came from Bella-san, but how big is the horde. We need to know that before we plan anything" Saya pushed up her specs with a haughty look on her face. Daichi wasn't offended by the question, he already knew that someone smart within the group would end up asking that.
"Bella was unable to see the exact size, but the number of the Zombies was easily more than five hundred" Daichi answered back in a grave tone while shaking his head.
Saeko would have ended up gaping like a fish if her mind was any weaker. Daichi was extremely good at acting. Now, Saeko finally realized why Daichi wasn't worried about convincing everyone. At that time, Daichi had avoided answering her question, now she finally understood why. She couldn't be any more proud of her lover. A leader needed to be manipulative when necessary…
"Five hundred?" Saya and a few others gasped in surprise after they heard the number and the ones who had decent heads on their shoulders only grimaced. The odds were completely against them, the Stamina parameter in their Status Window was there for a reason. Yes as you grow stronger, dealing with Zombies becomes easier, but you simply can't keep on fighting forever. You will become tired and your attacks will become slower and lose power as the fight goes on.
Even though fighting Zombies becomes easier, it is still very risky to keep fighting them. Only one scratch is enough to get you infected. They had no idea if a single scratch could infect a person who had reached the pinnacle of Level 1 or not. Even if someone was interested to find out, nobody would be willing to test it.
Aoba Kenji looked around and frowned. "How can we simply give up like that? When I was small, my father used to say that you shouldn't do what is easy, you should do what is right" Aoba declared with a proud look on his face. Daichi and a few others had to force themselves to stop laughing like maniacs after hearing that, but Kemono wasn't someone who cared about what was polite and what was rude. She did whatever she wanted to do.
"Bwhahaha!! Did you really just say that? That is golden!! Getting an abortion would have been the right thing, but here you are. Your father did the easy thing, instead of the right thing!! Bwhaha!!" Kemono continued to laugh and after hearing Kemono's words, the others who were barely holding their laughter started to laugh too.
Aoba clenched his fist and he murderously glared at Kemono and the ones who were laughing, Daichi was among that group too. "Don't you dare say anything bad about my father!!" Aoba roared in anger and Kemono simply scoffed.
"Or what, weakling?" Kemono growled and the temperature inside the room increased by several degrees. "You are a weakling. There is no place for weaklings in this world, so what the fuck are you spouting for?" Kemono questioned menacingly and for a moment, Aoba held his ground and continued to glare at Kemono, but he ended up cowering in fear.
Kemono nodded in satisfaction. "The horde consists of five hundred Zombies, I would be surprised if you could even kill fifty of them before you keel over, so don't go throwing around big words, especially when you don't have the power to back them up" Kemono explained calmly, but nobody missed the seriousness of her words.
"Just like my mom pointed out… If we are going, then remember that this is going to be extremely dangerous and you must know how to pull your own weight. Do not engage in the fight expecting someone else to pull your ass out of trouble and remember there is a high chance that you might meet your end if you go" Daichi said as he glanced around the room, after hearing Daichi's words, everyone had serious looks on their faces.
Kemono's interference has been the masterstroke for Daichi's plan. "We will try to save as many as we can, but please avoid putting your life on the line unnecessarily. We will see a lot of people, who can't be helped anymore, so don't blindly jump into the fray. Oh… and if someone decides to stay here, then I won't be angry with them. After all, this is going to be the riskiest thing we have done" with that, Daichi finally finished his speech.
Most of his speech was complete bullshit he had put together a few seconds ago. He could already guess who were going to join him, but he needed to scare them beforehand to prevent any of them from trying to become a hero. All of the fighters he had in the group were extremely valuable and losing them wasn't going to be favorable for the group as a whole.
Daichi looked around and nodded his head in satisfaction. "Good… Now that I have my point clear, who wants to join the rescue team?" Daichi asked as he slowly stood up…
