Chapter 23: Warriors

My eyes fluttered open. Needle-like pain shot through them, as I attempted to identify my surroundings. It wasn’t a hospital. It wasn’t the sprinter van or the bus. It certainly wasn’t the venue or the hotel room I’d checked into.

"Yay, snowflake."

The voice was distant and sounded vaguely familiar. My thoughts were too fuzzy to put a face with it. I blinked my weary eyes a few times, hoping to clear my vision and my thoughts. It didn’t do much good.

"Snowflake?" I repeated, shocked to hear my own voice scratchy and raw. Was it snowing? It was mid-August. My confusion deepened.

"Snowflake? What the f*ck are you talking about?" Who WAS that?

My senses caught onto something I could never forget—the smell of bourbon and vanilla. I sought that scent with my eyes and hands, grasping wildly at the air. After what seemed like centuries, he moved into my line of sight. Relief washed over me and the pain in my head eased a little.
