Chapter 26: Prison

The boys calmed down abruptly and stowed their phones. Curious, I straightened and peered through the window. We were no longer on the highway and turning onto what appeared to be a loose gravel road. Dense trees lined both sides but could barely be seen through the thick darkness.

"What is this? Where are we?" I asked.

"It’s best if you don’t know." Wulf’s reply was quiet but firm.

"Seriously? You’re not going to tell me?"

I glanced at him briefly, before willing my vision to sharpen. Images outside became clearer, though not by much. The night was impenetrable and unrelenting. After what seemed like another half-hour, the van swung a lazy curve into a circular driveway before an extremely large, extremely creepy gothic mansion, way bigger than our home in Florida.

"Okay, for real, though. Where are we?" I asked again.

The inside lights popped on as Wulf slid open the door. He shrugged nonchalantly. "Prison."
