Chapter 28: Kept Promises

A massive palm caught the back of my head in a basketball grab and jerked me away from Nash. Gravity lost all purpose as I sailed through the air, the abrupt disconnect leaving me disoriented.

After what felt like minutes, I slammed into a thick wooden support beam, my body nearly wrapping around it. In the split-second before a blast of white-hot pain shot through me, I could’ve sworn I saw Zane approaching.

Thankfully, I’d consumed enough of Nash’s blood to split my focus. Maintaining the spell on him, I cast another—a distress call to my coven. Where were they? There was no way Zane got the jump on all four of them. Then again... anything was possible.

I crumbled to the floor, indescribable pain wracking my midsection as broken ribs immediately began trying to heal. My mouth hinged open, a silent scream stressing the muscles of my throat. I knew I had to get it together. If I didn’t, Zane would gain the upper hand and I had no doubt he would take advantage of my injuries.
