Chapter 29: Don't Blink

"Not a warrior. A healer." I groaned loudly, as Kade shoved a rib back in place.

I’d been moved to a third-floor bedroom, as far from Nash and Zane as possible. The walls were as red as the fluid in my veins and a massive, ornate candelabra hung from the ceiling like a modern chandelier. The bed I rested on could’ve easily fit me, Anthony, and all my brothers.

If not for Kade’s insistence on torturing me for my own good, I might have noticed how appropriate it all looked. He broke and reset another bone.

"Blew my mind, too." The utterance was distracted; he had more important things to focus on than conversation.

Curiously, there was no bouncing or dipping in the bed, as he thrust his palms into my torso again. In the breath of time before the pain hit, I wondered what type of mattress completely absorbed movement like that. There wasn’t a chance to ask. I clenched my jaw, as a wave of agony crested.

"Ugh! Just fix the bones. Leave the bruises."
