Chapter 53

Octavian Karr

"I want the DNA splicing to go through router five." Karr stood on the floor of the lab, overlooking Handler Dodson's shoulder.

"But they hadn't tested the mini gene strategy." Dr. Kafteka was looking back and forth between two data pads, one in each hand. "The system cannot handle a transfer of this much data."

"Yes, it can." Karr's voice raised. "The simulations all passed. I want the DNA sequencing transferred now."

"But, Sir. The mRNA isn't fully solidified."

"Doctor." Karr composed himself again and strode over to his frantic worker. "I want you to listen to me." Kafteka lowered his hands and wiped a bead of sweat off of his forehead. "The system can handle it. I want you to start the transfer. This is an order."

"Yes, Sir. I understand."

"I'm not sure you do, Dr. Kafteka. I am giving you a direct order. Regardless of the consequences to the hardware, make the transfer. I will take full responsibility for any system failures or hardware replacements."
