Crystal trudged upstairs inside her house with Dad barking behind her.  


She had lived a lie for a decade. Lying came easily to her and she could do it without flinching, even in front of Westridge every time she catered one of his events or he attended any of the others she worked. So why did she feel so rotten about it with Kade? "I'll tell you and Ruby together."  


"Have you been crying?" He stomped on the stairs after her. "Ruby's been pacing in her room ever since you left."  


"Only as part of the act with Kade." A partial truth. At Ruby's door she tapped on the door frame and entered. Her dad marched in behind her.  


"Guess you're ok since I didn't get a call to make your bail."   


"Don't worry. They only captured a fuzzy half of Uncle George." She gave her sister a careful hug to avoid her injury.  


"I wasn't worried. What made you think I was?"
