As her sister and Paul raced to the house, Kade cleared his throat.

"Mind if we take a walk?"

"Okay." Her stomach flipped. Did he notice how much she avoided his stare during dinner and didn't eat much? Even though she knew she should eat, each forced bite tasted like paste.

As they rounded the next street, he still didn't speak. She racked her brain for something to say.

"Listen." He scuffed a rock with his shoes. "Some stuff is coming up at work... new clients to impress. I might not be able to spend as much time as I'd like with you until this is over."
