Chapter 23

A few days ago, Emmeline had received Eva's letter, responding to her invitation to spend Christmas at the Crawford residence.

'Dear sister,

Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend. The Dankworths will need all staff present as they will be hosting some guests. As I'm the head cook, I can't be absent. Olivier will need to look after the carriage horses as well as those on the farm itself.

As for the store's offer, I spoke to Olivier. He refused at first, but with Louisa leaving for London, he changed his mind. We won't go right away, but we plan to go close to our girl's birthday.

How is Louisa, Emmeline? I care so much about her. I've never spent so much time away from my daughter. She told me about what you guys are offering her, all the education and I am more than grateful. I ask you not to give her any ideas of marrying some noble. Olivier doesn't want to accept the dowry that Roger offered. Perhaps the position of governess is something wonderful for her.
