Chapter 20

At lunch the following day, Mary got up to make an announcement. "We've been communicating with the rescue personnel down at the base of the mountain. They've confirmed that the storm has passed and that they have begun rescuing people off the mountain, but that they cannot get to us at this time. They estimate a few days at most, but there is already a warning for another storm, so we need to be conservative with our supplies."

The room seemed to exhale all at once. A few days were totally doable. As long as we had food and hot water, this whole thing wasn't much of a hardship.

The five of us finished eating and stood. I tried my damndest not to look at Chance, but it was a losing battle, to say the least. He was like some kind of magnet that my eyes couldn't resist.
