Chapter 40 Waking Up

Lucas's grandpa thought it was over, but he didn't expect that Ashley suddenly raised her head.

"But I hope I can see him after he wakes up because I have something to say to him. After that, I will fulfill my promise. If you don't agree, I will follow my way of doing things."

Ashley's attitude became tough. Lucas's grandpa narrowed his eyes and held the crutch tightly in his hand. He gritted his teeth and his cheeks bulged slightly. He thought for a long time before he came back.

"Well, if you fail, I will make you regret it for the rest of your life. Don't forget what I said today!"

This woman was the first one who dared to bargain with him in so many decades. After saying that, he stood up and left.

When she was alone, her eyes turned red and filled with tears. The so-called toughness was just her shell to protect herself.

Her throat seemed to be choked by something and she felt very uncomfortable. She covered her eyes with her hands. The moist mist did not make her feel better, but the pain in her eyes aggravated the sadness in her heart.

With one hand on her shoulder, she turned around and found it was Luke. Ashley wiped her tears with her hand casually and opened her mouth.

"It's you. What's up?"

Luke sat down in Lucas's grandpa's seat with worry on his face. He reached out to hold her hand but was dodged.

"I saw Grandpa take you here. I was afraid that he would do something to you, so I followed him. Are you okay?"

His voice was very gentle, but she didn't care at all. She stood up and shook his head. She had no desire to talk to others.

"Thank you for your concern. I'm fine. My eyes hurt because of the wind. If there's nothing else, I'll go back first."

Luke clenched his fists. She didn't want to talk to him at all. Looking at her back, he said quickly.

"I have found out the truth about the fire. Don't you want to hear it?"

Ashley stopped, turned around, and asked in surprise, "Really?"

His face finally softened a little. As long as it came to something she cared about it, it was easy to control. He pretended to nod with pity.

"Yes, we found out that the person who led you to the warehouse this time was Kate. We followed the clues and found Jake..."

Luke deliberately said half and a half to give enough space for her imagination.

Seeing her pale face and eagerness to kill Jake, Luke felt much better. At least, he was not the person she hated most in the world.

"I will let him pay the price!" Ashley's hands crunched and trembled with anger.

It was Jake again. He was haunting her all the time. She could bear that he cheated on Kate and planned to make her suffer without any property. He shouldn't have targeted his child and the person he cared about!

"Don't be too excited. I'll help you deal with Jake. Now, Lucas is in a coma. As his brother, I'm also worried about him. If you have any problem, you can call me. I'll try my best to help you."

"Thank you."

Taking a deep breath, she suppressed her anger. She didn't accept or refuse Luke's kindness. Who knew when it would be useful?

"You're welcome. We were good friends in high school. I'll help you even if it's not because of Lucas."

How much he hoped that she could take a good look at him. She would see the love in his eyes. He was no worse than Lucas, but he was just out of luck.

But she just nodded slightly and turned back to the in-patient department. Luke's heart was cut a little by a knife. Jealousy and unwillingness mixed and eroded his emotions.

Before Lucas woke up, Lucas's grandpa finally allowed her to visit him. She could stay outside the ward for a while every day, and she felt relieved when she saw his face.

"Sister, what are you doing here? You haven't recovered yet. Go back and have a rest."

Not knowing when Julia appeared and stood behind Ashley.

She turned her head and took a look at her without any hesitation. But when she saw that Julia went into the ward blatantly, her pupils could not help but dilate.

"Miss Ashley, stop. Master told you not to forget what you have said."

Ashley was about to follow them in but was stopped by the bodyguards outside.

"Why can she come in?" She was not convinced. It was understandable that Lucas's grandpa didn't allow her to go in. What was wrong with her?

Julia said to her through the bodyguard's arm, with a slightly sarcastic smile on her face.

"Ashley, what are you talking about? Grandpa asked me to come here to visit him. Grandpa is in poor health. I did this to make amends for you. If it weren't for you, how could he lie here?"

The sarcastic tone pierced Ashley's heart. She lowered her hand and didn't want to go in on impulse. But when she saw other women being so close to Lucas, her heart was like being cut into pieces. She didn't know what was wrong with her.

She dragged her heavy body back to her ward. Lily had been waiting for her here for a long time and held her to lie down on the bed in disappointment.

"You went to Lucas's ward again, didn't you? Why do you have to do that? I don't know what good it will do to you except for increasing pain. Lucas's grandpa has warned you like that. Can you be a little pride?"

Lily didn't want to see her like this. It was inevitable for her to be a little rude when she spoke. Ashley didn't blame her.

She looked out of the window blankly. The tree outside kept falling leaves and growing new leaves.

"Lily, Julia went to Lucas's ward to see him."

"How could she go in? Didn't they say that they wouldn't let others get close to the ward?" Lily couldn't figure it out.

The corner of her mouth twitched slightly, revealing a smile that was uglier than crying.

"Lucas's grandpa asked her to go there. Lily, I feel so uncomfortable here." She thumped her heart and said, "I don't know why. How I wished I could be with him just now. Lily, am I crazy?"

She looked at her best friend. Lily couldn't bear to turn her head and sigh.

"You told me earlier that you married Lucas because of your baby and prove that you could live a better life. But in my opinion, you fell in love with him. But because of the terrible relationship with Jake, you couldn't face your love for him. Ashley, you have always been rational and sober. But this time, you should take a good look at your own heart. You love him. "

Sitting next to her, Lily sincerely comforted her in a soft voice.
