CHAPTER 57

Susan's hand trembled as she gently dabbed the cool cloth against Edmund's forehead. After she was done wiping him to her satisfaction, she set the bowl of water and towel aside and sat beside him on the bed. Her eyes fixed on his peaceful face. His chest rose and fell with steady breaths.

The bandages across his shoulder and chest a stark reminder of the danger he had faced to save her. 

She gently stroked his hair, her fingers tracing the familiar contours of his face. "Edmund, you foolish, brave man." She whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "What would I have done if—if…"
