Chapter 12: Diner Trouble

Rowan knew Glenna was right. She needed to learn the art of speaking up. However, she had learned so long ago that she needed to watch her manners and always speak politely to her elders. Yet, once Rowan got back to work, the gentlemen called her over and apologized for their actions. They spent the rest of the day ignoring her except to say a polite thank you when she refilled their coffees.

Rowan spent the rest of the day watching Glenna as she dealt with the customers. Rowan quickly realized Glenna was the queen of putting her foot down when she thought people had stepped over a line. She was so relaxed and courteous, but was not afraid to say no. Rowan tried to copy her as much as she could, but she was still tripping up when people would ask her for something she knew that she just couldn’t do.

By the time it was almost the end of her shift, Rowan felt as if she had been run over by a speeding car. Glenna saw Rowan going back towards their coat room and called her over.
