Chapter 95: Freedom

As Momma bear helped them back to the truck, Rowan tried to keep her mind occupied by explaining to Momma bear what happened after she left the cabin. But as she made it to the part about Burger, Rowan couldn’t hold back the sobs anymore.

The pain in her body, heart, and soul grew too much for her legs to carry her. Cass helped Rowan up and onto Momma bear’s back, allowing her to cry her heart out as she was carried to safety.

-Rowan hurt and scared- Momma bear commented in sympathy.

-Yes- Rowan agreed as she cried. -I’m so worried about Fyn. Burger is either dead and/or missing. I can’t tell because there is nothing but silence-

-Burger is sleeping- Momma bear told her almost absent-mindedly.

Rowan sat upright on Momma bear’s back. “What?!”

“What’s going on?” Cass asked, startled.

“Momma bear says Burger is sleeping,” Rowan told him, then turned to Momma bear.

-What do you mean Burger is sleeping?- Rowan demanded a bit harsher than she anticipated.
