"Are you sure?" Abel asked.
Luke nodded without looking back.
"Okay, I'll walk you back," Abel said, following behind Luke.
"You can't," Luke said firmly.
Abel paused, but Luke didn't see his expression.
Luke made to leave the room, his hand on the door handle.
"I'm not letting you walk home alone at one in the morning while you're still recovering from vampire venom," Abel said, adamant as he grabbed Luke's wrist.
Luke's entire body stiffened.
Abel let go of him, but he said, "I'm coming with you."
Luke let out a sigh and squeezed his eyes shut. "You can't come near the church."
"Why not? I have before," Abel asked, petulant.
"I'm serious," Luke said, but even he could hear that he sounded more pained than commanding.
"Fine, I'll walk you up to your street. And you can just text me when you get inside your place."
Luke wanted to disintegrate through the floor. "I lost your number," he said, grateful that he wasn't facing Abel as he said so.
