Chapter 31: Saint

Luke stood in his bathroom the next day after he showered, wiping steam off of his mirror and craning his neck to see the bite on his neck. It was healed, with only two faint pinkish marks of the fangs left behind as a scar. He wondered if the scar would ever fully fade, or if the reminder of his first—and hopefully only—vampire bite would be part of him forever.

He squeezed the water out of his hair and realized just how long it'd gotten when the waves stretched to his jaw. His cheap scissors tempted him from beneath the sink, but Luke didn't give in. He had plans with Abel later, and as he thought about seeing him, the desire to hack aimlessly at his hair diminished.

Luke got dressed—just jeans and a white t-shirt, the most he could come up with in his bland wardrobe that consisted mostly of stuffy polos, button-ups, and slacks that he'd worn to services for years—and texted Abel, "I'll head over soon if that's okay."
