Chapter 30: Wallowing

As soon as Parker got home, her mother could tell something was wrong. Blanche rushed to Parker’s side and took her backpack from Parker’s shoulder.

“What’s wrong, honey?” she asked, brushing her fingers through Parker’s light hair.

“Mom, dating really sucks,” Parker muttered. Blanche hugged her daughter.

“Oh, sweetie, it can be hard sometimes. Tell me what’s going on,” Blanche said. She coaxed Parker to the couch.

Parker laid down, putting her head in Blanche’s lap. Blanche stroked her fingers through Parker’s hair, listening as Parker told her about her breakup and her conversation with Lucien.

When Damien had broken up with her, she didn’t feel the same rejection she felt at Lucien ignoring her and running off. She was trying to make sense of it while also explaining it to her mother. It wasn’t easy, and tears kept dripping from her cheeks onto her mother’s lap.

Blanche listened to everything, offering soothing sounds as Parker spoke.
