Chapter 38: Betrayal

Parker couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned until one in the morning before she got out of bed to pace her room. She couldn’t shake the uneasiness about how Lucien left things after the party.

She still didn’t even understand what he’d meant when he said he thought she was getting too invested in their relationship. Parker had made one statement about ‘forever,’ and Lucien had gotten all dismissive.

As she paced, a sudden thought occurred to her. Parker had never given any thought to becoming a vampire. She was satisfied with her life as a half-human and she wanted to discover more about her angel side. That was enough of the supernatural for her.

If Lucien thought she had a desire to become a vampire, then she could understand why he got upset. She didn’t want him to think that she was only dating him in hopes of becoming immortal. She also didn’t want Lucien to think that she expected him to make her his immortal lover or anything.
