chapter 18

"It's not red, you know my name..." she growled.

"huh. but your a redhead, so red is a logical nickname. "Sam rebutted with a smirk.

her face got red with rage, but she didn't speak.

'heh, not even she can defend against Sam's mouth. but she's smart enough to not give him anymore ammunition.' I thought to myself as she quickly changed her expression from anger to complete calmness.

losing interest, I turned back towards the the pile.

'hmm. when should the food be here?' I questioned internally.

"hay Jake, want a hit?" Sam called out.

I looked over at Sam. he was leaning forward with his hand extended, with the joint between his index and his thumb.

I grabbed the joint from my friend, put it to my lips, and inhaled. my lungs instantly started to heat hup. I felt a warm smile spread across my face.

"T-this is stronger than the last batch. what the hell did you do?" I asked as I blew the smoke out of my lungs.

"that's a trade secret, Jake!" Sam laughed as he took the joint back.

"I don't understand why you fool's keep inhaling that crap." the redhead suddenly spoke.

me and Sam turned our heads at her simultaneously.

"because it's one of the best damn thing's on this world." Sam stated in a matter-of-factly tone.

"I doubt that..." she said as she crossed her arms.

"then try it." Sam said in a serious voice as he handed her the joint.

"why should i?" she said as she narrowed her eye's at the joint.

"what's wrong scared?" Sam said mockingly.

"me? scared? hand the damn thing over!" she sneared.

she gripped the joint with uneasy fingers. put it up to her lips and tried to inhale, but nothing came out.

"It's not working, your craftsmanship of this is horrid." she stated with distain.

"please. your pressing your lips too hard." Sam growled in defense.

"you don't need to apply that much pressure on it. just let is rest on your lips, and breathe in." in instructed.

she looked at me, than began to try again. this time it worked, because the end of the joint started too glow.

she didn't stop inhaling until the joint burned down to her fingers. with a a big exhale, she started coughing up a storm. by the time the large cloud of smoke dispersed she was done coughing. the whites of her eye's where completely bloodshot, and a small smile spread across her face.

"see. not that bad, right?" Sam asked with an impressed smile.

"I suppose..." she muttered, trying to keep up the high and mighty act, but failed.

"hey red. your going too want food and drinks, so you should sit down and wait for it to be delivered." I suggested.

"It's not red... it's Elise..." she muttered as she sat down.

"okay." I chuckled.

"you said food... do you mean human food?" Elise asked.

"yup! I ordered a hole smorgasbord!" Sam exclaimed with a smile.

"I see. it better be worth making me wait..." she tried fruitlessly to keep up her regle facade, but her squinted eye's, and a big smile gave it away.

"trust me. this place is the fucking best, I order it all the time." Sam reassured Elise.

"anyways. how is it red?" Sam asked with a knowing smile.

"how's what?" she asked without looking away from the pile of kindling l.

"you know, the joint you finished off in one toke.." Sam elaborated.

"It's fine, I suppose..." Elise muttered as she looked away.

while they were talking I started preparing to light the bond fire. pulling out a lighter from my pocket, I leaned my arm in closer, but as I was about too light it, I was suddenly reminded of the black flames.

'hmm. maybe I should try using those flames, ah but how do I bring them out?' I thought to myself as I looked at the lighter.

putting the lighter back in my pocket, I started to think of ways too summon the black flames.

'until now, I've never really tried too bring the dark flames out. they only really appeared when I've killed something or someone of supernatural origin. or when I was in a bad situation, they'd come out of nowhere, and when that happens they influenced me.' I inquired the black flames mentality.

'maybe if I try this?' I thought to myself.

I held out my hand. my palm facing up, and focused my eyes on my palm. after a couple seconds, my vision changed. seeing into my intire forearm, the blood pulsed with every beat of my heart, black and blue specks of what seemed to be my power coursed with my blood. i tried to direct those specks towards my palm, at first they didn't listen to me, but suddenly the black specks rushed towards my palm.

the black flames appeared in my palm with the shape of a small, golf ball sized sphere. I dragged the flame over the kindling and it instantly caught fire. I was worried that we'd have a black flaming bond fire, but the flames instantly turned bright orange.

"woah. when could you do that?" Sam asked with wide eye's.

"this is the first time I called them myself." I said while scratching my head, "but it felt like I've done it hundreds of times even though this was the first time."

"what do you mean, it felt like you've done it hundreds of times if this is the first time?" Elise asked.

"I don't really know... it's the same with other experiences, once I experience it once then I feel like I experienced it a thousand times..." I stated with a small smile.

"I see..." she muttered as she stared at me with a interested gaze.

'did I do something abnormal? ah who am I kidding I am abnormal... and judging by her reaction I really did something abnormal!' I was freaking out on the inside as she continued to stare at me.

"ehh, what's the big deal. so you shot some flames out of your hand. at the end of the day that's good because if you do have abnormal learning speeds then you could master it in no time!" Sam said as he watched the driveway like a hawk.

"I guess he does have a point." Elise stated with surprise.

"of course I do. what do you think I am, stupid? Sam asked in a offended tone.

"kinda..." Elise said as she looked at Sam with tired eye's.

Sam was going to throw a fit, but luckily a car was driving up the driveway.

"Ugh finally, the foods here!" Sam exclaimed.
