Chapter 27: Uplifting the Ban

Matthew felt devastated by what just happened. The authorities took Rex because he refused to obey his boss. Matthew found it unfair and he could feel the anger in his stomach. They were woken up to this world, they had no rights, no power. They were sent back to the empty field to die. There was nothing there.

Matthew realized that he was not thinking about the danger and tragedy they were in for two days because he was distracted with Ava. She gave him hope. But that wasn’t enough. When hope was not enough, action was needed.

He walked to Ava’s house with these thoughts. When Ava saw him again, she studied his face and emotions. She looked at his soul, to understand him better. To help him better.

Matthew frowned, his chin was tight. He clenched fists and looked down.

Ava walked up to him. For a second, she saw a little boy in front of her. And he came to ask for help. She put her hands on his cheeks.

‘’We can help him,’’ she sounded sure. ‘’He will be alright.’’
