Finally letting go of her anger, Amelia joined her brother's laugh. 'There is not much call for arms practice out here, but I still carry my knife just in case.' She patted the handle of the blade that hung at her waist. 'And I guess others do not know of my little nest egg, so I do not have to make the sacrifices they do.'

'What you are saying is they do not know who you are, which is as you wished. You are going to have to find some other way to teach people to respect your independence.'

Amelia looked thoughtfully at her brother, reviewing her day from this new perspective. 'It's odd you know, I used to give you advice and now it is you counselling me. Anyway, changing the subject, your note said you wanted to see me about something.'

Her brother coloured under her gaze. 'Umm, well, why not come home and stay the night and I can tell you all about it. Then I can escort you back tomorrow.'

'Damon, I am not sure... We are supposed to be keeping our distance.'
