The past

"Why did I waste time looking for a purse I was holding in my hand?" She raised a brow at me, "you never thought about that, right?"

"I thought —"

My mind exactly wasn't on her. Had I been a bit observant, I would have noticed something about her.

"Just tell him about this, Dan. It will help your relationship a lot." Mother lightly ruffled my hair, "you are no longer alone. You have me as your mother, and you have a boyfriend. Don't allow Smith to control your life as he did before. He's not worthy of you."

But there was a time I thought I was not worthy of Smith. Then, he was the only star in my sky of darkness.

Whenever he smiled at me, it was as if I smiled at my heavenly beings.

I had Smith placed on a high pedestal and worshiped him from afar.

"You've suffered a lot, Dan. Don't you think it's time for you to rest, and allow others to take care of you?"

"What if he returns?"
