Foster Parents

As the couple went inside, Alice turned to look for the guardian knight, but it was gone. She scanned around for any traces, but there were none.

Lili walked inside with the help of Niklaus. Her heart was refusing to take any oxygen. She was clenching over the dress near her chest as it was aching. "Ah! Ah!"

Nik too turned concerned over Lili's health deteriorating. He noticed how her chest wasn't moving despite her struggling to breathe with nose and mouth. However, he was confident of his mother's spell; he walked further and carefully examined for any change in her condition.

As they took a few more steps inside, Lili's fingers loosened over her dress, her face.. calmed down and the protruded veins on the neck faded. "Are you fine?" He whispered.

"I don't know about that..." she started and began sobbing. "I didn't tell anyone to hurt your mother." Lili murmured under her breath. She was frightened to see the water creature respond only to her voice, making her the culprit in Alice's incident.

"Are you worried about that?" Nik asked with eyes wide open. He was stunned and shocked to know the reason for her tension. "Aren't you afraid of that creature? Aren't you surprised to know that you are a witch?"

"I am not a witch." Lili said it straightforwardly. If she was a witch, she could have done some magic to stop herself from getting married to the rich, fierce and annoying man. She would have done some magic to turn her father into a caring one. "I didn't hurt your mom."

"Then what is that and why is that protecting you?"

"I don't know! I don't know who it is, who your mother is, or what your mother was planning to do to me. But I am not a witch." She cried with her head down. Now that she had calmed down and thought for a while, she understood that Niklaus Cooper wasn't a normal person. She slammed her face with her palm and cried aloud.

He was a businessman with many companies under this control, a mafia person who kills people and deals with illegal stuff. A son of a witch, which was like a new addition to him. After Nik's entrance into her life, none of the things went properly.

"Child, you are a witch and that too, a powerful one. Your powers are concealed and will be unrevealed when the time comes." Alice said, after hearing and watching Liliya struggle.

Lili removed her palm from her face and glared at Alice with eyes filled with red lines. She stood and walked to Nik's mom, "How do you know?" Lili wasn't in a mood to give respect and treat her like a modest daughter-in-law.

"I am a witch and I have the power to know one's past. When I saw you, I read how you got forced into marriage, your poor connection with your father, and how you escaped from your father's insane demands."

Lili's eyes widened to hear the last statement. 'How did she know? Can she really read the past? What else did she read to conclude me as a witch? What about that Guardian knight?'

"Sorry, not father. Foster father!"

"What?" Niklaus and Liliya roared at the same time. Nik was stunned to hear that. He had assigned the top detectives to work on finding details about Liliya, but none reported that. Andrew's attitude towards his daughter did raise questions at one point, but never did he think Liliya was an adopted child.

"This is not true!" Lili shook her head. "Even though my father doesn't like me, my mother loves me a lot. She always tried her best to protect me from him."

"Your mother doesn't know that you were adopted." Alice blurted out after a lot of hesitation. She didn't want to collapse Lili's world but was eager to know why any witch would hide her daughter's identity. Assigning a Guardian knight made her more suspicious.

Lili's eyes pinched and teeth kissed. "Just because I am hearing you, it doesn't mean that I will believe everything you say."

"Maa! Are you sure?" Nik ran to his mother.

Alice gave a nod by looking straight into her son's eyes. "I was about to see her birth mother when the spell took over her to prevent me from reading and the Guardian Knight attacked me."

Lili still wasn't sure of Alice's words, but just the thought that she wasn't born to her parents teared her. Though she was mistreated by them, she couldn't imagine anyone else as her parents. 'She must be lying.' Lili gulped and wept her tears. "So, you mean that the guardian knight is my bodyguard? What was it doing when my life was going on a rough patch because of my father? What was it doing when I was forced to get to him?"

"Sorry, but you can't call it your bodyguard. It's more than that and created for a specific and worthy cause. The reason for its existence is to protect your life. You must be some special witch."

Lili's fist clenched and nostrils flared. "You can call me a witch and an adopted daughter, but I can't call it a bodyguard. Great!" She sniffed, pressed her lips, and nodded. "Why don't we check that?" Her eyes moved around the room.

The mother and son looked at each other and narrowed their eyes over Lili.

In an instant, Lili slammed the glass jar against the wall and placed the sharp end, pointing to her wrist. "I will talk to the knight and ask it about its existence and also my existence."

"Lili, you don't have to put your life in danger for that. It's unnecessary!" Nik stepped towards her but stopped as Lili widened her eyes and moved and the edge near her wrist.

"Yah!! My existence is unnecessary. Your mom says that I am adopted, and that my mother loves me because she thinks that I am her own daughter. Despite thinking that I am her own daughter, she sold me off to you. So, tell me for whom I should live."
