Hallie’s POV
“You’re what?” I shriek, my eyes wide as I stare at River. He is leaning against the refrigerator door while I make something for breakfast.
“I’ve agreed to work with the hunter who tried to kill me so that we can bring down whatever crazed family member is trying to target me.”
I stare at him dumbfounded; my bowl of cereal forgotten about on the table in front of me. Why is he only now telling me about this? And how did this even come about? The last I saw of the hunter was the other day when I caught him watching me from the parking lot. And now River is going to help him track the killer vampire down? All of this has my head spinning.
“When did this happen?”
“Last night,” River says nonchalantly as he looks down at the ring on his finger, the large ruby gem glistening under the sunlight rays shining in through the open window beside us. “I went outside to get some fresh air and he approached me.”
“But why did you agree to it? I thought he wanted to kill you.”
