Chapter 48: Ghost From The Past

River’s POV

My eyes widen with shock and a little bit of fear because I’m staring at a ghost. A ghost who I thought died many years ago in a house fire, leaving me to fend for myself in the darkness. I didn’t think ghosts were real until this very moment.

“It’s you…” I breathe, my heart pounding in my chest as a tingle spreads across my skin. I don’t know whether to jump with joy or curse him out. “Dad?”

The man I once knew as my father is standing a few feet away from me, his face half-lit by the source of light from the streetlamps as he wraps his arm tighter around the girl’s neck he captured. He looks stockier than I remember as if he’s put on weight and gotten toned. His eyes mirror mine as they stare intently, barely faltering or blinking. He seems unfazed.

The girl’s eyes turn to me, wide with fear as she blinks rapidly. They’re giving me one simple message as she gasps for air – save me.
