I think for a moment that it is a huge beast with a massive misshapen head. Then it moves and I feel my stomach heave at the awful realization.
It isn’t one big beast. It’s a beast made by twisting together many smaller ones. They make up its head and torso, melted together as though welded by a great fire. One huge hand comes loose, then another. Fingers are limbs, bodies create its arms. I swallow another scream down my throat and fight the urge to flee.
The creature pushes itself out of the hole it has made and takes a stride towards us, taking hold of Chrissy before she can summon any of her newfound powers and flinging her away and into a rock. I see her light flicker dangerously as she lies prone.
