Chapter 8: Medusa

The fog grew around Everett and Vivian as if by some magical force providing them the cover they needed. Everett moved quickly, the pressure of his hyper-speed taking the air from Vivian's lungs, as he pushed her against a rough tree branch. He held a slender finger to his perfect lips, his eyes burrowing into her own. Vivian struggled to breathe, his face so close to her own as she felt drawn to kiss him.

Suddenly, a noise brought Vivian back to the present. Shaking the overwhelming feelings she had, Vivian focused her mind on what she was hearing. A howl surfed on the wind, a sound filled with such pain that it made Vivian feel as if she were about to cry.

“Close your eyes,” Everett whispered into her ear, the seduction in his voice curling Vivian’s toes that were still shoved into stiletto heels. Suddenly, Vivian’s mind snapped back into the present, realizing that she was ill-prepared for a fight. Everett was a distraction, one that would get her killed.
