Chapter 13: The Room

The air caught in Vivian’s chest and suddenly her heartbeat was not waning but picking up pace at an alarming rate. Embarrassment flushed her cheeks as she knew that Everett would hear the acceleration in her heart rate. She tried to think of something to say, to mask her attraction, but her mind was completely fogged by the way Everett was now looking at her.

“Clearly, I have numerous rooms for you to choose from,” he offered. “I can show you all of them or just pick the one I think you’ll be the most comfortable in.”

“Just pick.” It was all Vivian could force her mouth to say.

Everett ushered Vivian back to the foyer where she picked up her duffle bag before following Everett towards the left staircase that mirrored the one on the right side of the foyer. She followed him up to the landing, then down the left hallway. Vivian took note that every single door was closed, adding to the mysteriousness of this place and Everett.
