Chapter 19: Woman in Disguise

Everett released Vivian from his grip, stepping back into the shadows, leaning against the brick wall. “All the victims were found in their homes,” Everett explained. “A vampire would just kill them here, not worry about the mess.” Vivian already knew it wasn't a vampire, but she listened anyway to Everett's theory. “Nor did the victims' struggle.”

“How did you know that?”

“I have friends at the station. It gains me access to information not printed in the press,” he confessed. “This is a creature Vivian, not a vampire.”

“What are you thinking?” Everett didn’t answer, just stared at Vivian as he casually leaned on the wall.

“Were you really going to come back?” He finally asked, his question taking Vivian off guard.

“Why?” He shrugged. “It doesn’t matter now.”

“Why not?”

“Because, Everett, we can’t do this. The Society sent someone to my house. It’s too dangerous.”
