Chapter 48: Trading Lives

Vivian remembers burning herself as a child, putting her hand on the stove after her mother warned it was hot. But Vivian needed to feel it for herself. She’d never felt pain like that before, her nerves sending jolts of lightning through her body as if the fire from the stove could reach every part of her body through her hand. She never touched the stove again.

This was the same feeling, that fire burning throughout her entire body as she pushed herself through the orb. Screaming in pain, Vivian didn’t allow herself to stop, her mind locked in on the singular thing she had to do - save Everett. But her body rebelled, tried to push against her mind as she stepped forward, her body trying to refuse to move. Stretching her hand, she reached for Everett, the pain growing so great. She knew she could only manage it a little longer before her body completely took over.
