Chapter 64: Different Paths

Vivian stood in a thick fog of deceit that clouded around them both, as she stared at Everett. He was waiting for an answer, an explanation that she didn’t want to give knowing how it would sound. Knowing how it would make her appear after what they did last night. Of course, there was a part of Vivian that wanted to stay in that bed, curled up next to his naked body. She wanted to feel him press against her, allow him to trace her body with his fingers, but that was not her life.

No, Vivian, had a different path set into motion many years ago. She could never be that person she wanted to be with Everett, nor could he be that person with her. They both were forced onto different paths by a world that had decided a long time ago what they were and who they had to be.

“Everett, as I said last night, nothing has changed.”

“I can see that.” His claw clinched. “I can also see that we have both been deceived.” He glanced at the neatly made, empty bed.
