There was a light tap at the door, his knuckles just brushing against the wood. Vivian stood on the other side, wondering if he really meant to knock. Pressing her hand up against the door, Vivian struggled with her two sides, as she always did with Everett. She wanted to let him in, forget that Cici existed, but her other side would never let that happen. Letting him in would only lead to her getting hurt again, every time.
One side of her knew that Everett had some level of feelings for her, she felt it in the way he kissed her and saw it in the way he looked at her. But in her heart, she knew it would never match what he felt for Cici. That too was obvious in the way he looked at her when she mentioned her name.
“Vivian,” he whispered through the door. “Please let me in.”
