Chapter 38: One Step Forward

The only sound I could hear as I laid next to Caleb in his bed was the pounding of my own heart. After we’d finished our hot chocolates and got ready for bed, he hadn’t even mentioned the possibility of me sleeping on the couch instead, and I didn’t offer.

When he threw me a dry t-shirt to change into, I quickly changed in the bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror for a moment, and saw that his shirt ended at my upper thigh. I tugged on the bottom, trying to stretch it to cover at least a bit more of my leg. After all, I wasn’t wearing anything underneath it.

After a moment, I realized I would have to get over it. I didn’t have any other comfortable options. I stepped out of the bathroom, and secretly hoped that Caleb wasn’t looking.

But of course, he was. The second I stood in front of the bed, I saw his eyes slowly travel up my body again. His lip quirked up.

“Why do all of my shirts look way better on you?” he asked, then scooted over to make more room for me.
