Chapter 41: Bittersweet Closure

I stared at the clock on my phone and watched the minutes tick by. I tried to swallow my disappointment, and decided to finally call it a night.

As I stood up and stretched, trying to regain feeling in my lower back after sitting on the stone steps for so long, I heard footsteps coming from my driveway.

Finn slowly appeared from the shadows into the dim light cast from my garage. When he was close enough so that I could see his face, I noticed his eyes were full of deep regret. It was the complete opposite of how he’d looked in the bakery earlier that day.

I took a deep breath, and made my way over to him, meeting him halfway.

“Hey,” I said, suddenly nervous. It had been a long time since I’d felt like that around Finn. It was strange to stand in front of him after everything that had happened and not know how to act.
