Chapter 47: The Taste Testing

I hadn’t meant to drink so much wine at Heather’s that I got a hangover the next morning, but there I was, groggily pushing myself out of Heather’s bed as she yelled at me to get up.

“Come on, Evie, we’re already late for brunch,” she shouted from the bathroom, where she was doing her morning skincare routine. “I really don’t want to be late to the testing afterward.”

I groaned, squeezing my eyes shut at the sudden pain that shot through my head. I reached into Heather’s side table and grabbed some ibuprofen, taking some as quickly as I could. There was no way I was functioning with a headache like that.

When I realized I only had the clothes I’d worn the night before, Heather came in, makeup halfway done, and started shuffling through her closet.

“Are you gonna be okay today?” she asked me as she tossed me a crop top and denim jacket to go over it.

“Once this medicine kicks in, then yeah, I’ll be fine,” I told her as I began changing.

“That’s not what I meant.”
