I was awoken early in the morning by a shuffling sound outside of my room. I stirred for a moment, then heard the creak of my door.
“Evie?” It was Addison, whispering loudly from the doorway.
I mumbled in response. Before I knew it, Addison shook me. I yelped, whacking my arms around until I hit her. She laughed as I rubbed my eyes before opening them.
“What?” I asked, my tongue feeling heavy. It took a moment to register that Addison wasn’t wearing the flannel pajama pants she’d gone to sleep in the night before. She had a full face of makeup on, and wore a short, white cloth dress.
She was glowing, with a smile bigger than I ever seen plastered on her face. “I’m sorry, but I had to show you as soon as we got home.”
